Trichodelitschia

From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellness Encyclopedia

Trichodelitschia is a genus of fungi in the family Hyaloscyphaceae. The genus contains a single species, Trichodelitschia bisporula, which was first described scientifically in 1931 by mycologist John Axel Nannfeldt.

Taxonomy[edit | edit source]

The genus Trichodelitschia was first described in 1931 by Swedish mycologist John Axel Nannfeldt. The genus name combines the Greek words trichos (hair) and delitschia, a genus of fungi in the same family. The specific epithet bisporula refers to the two-spored asci that characterize the species.

Description[edit | edit source]

Trichodelitschia bisporula is characterized by its small, hair-like fruit bodies that grow on decaying wood. The fruit bodies are cylindrical and taper to a point at the top. They are covered in a layer of fine, white hairs. The ascospores are elliptical and measure 7–9 by 4–5 micrometres.

Habitat and distribution[edit | edit source]

Trichodelitschia bisporula is a saprophytic fungus, meaning it obtains its nutrients from decaying organic matter. It is commonly found on decaying wood in forested areas. The species has a wide distribution and has been reported from various locations in Europe, North America, and Asia.
