Tripura
Tripura is a state in northeastern India, with the capital at Agartala. It is bordered by Bangladesh to the north, south, and west, and the Indian states of Assam and Mizoram to the east. The state is connected to the rest of India by the National Highway 8. This region is predominantly inhabited by the Tripuri people and the Bengali people.
History[edit | edit source]
The history of Tripura as a political entity begins with the reign of Maharaja Bir Chandra Manikya Bahadur, who is often credited with the modernization of Tripura. The Manikya Dynasty ruled the state for more than 300 years.
Geography[edit | edit source]
Tripura is a landlocked state in North East India, where the topography varies between plains, valleys and hills, with several rivers and dense forests.
Economy[edit | edit source]
The economy of Tripura is primarily based on agriculture and allied activities. However, due to hilly terrain and forest cover, only a small proportion of the land is available for cultivation.
Culture[edit | edit source]
The culture of Tripura is a blend of indigenous tribal culture and the culture of Bengali settlers. The major tribal communities of Tripura are Tripuri, Jamatiya, Reang, Noatia and Halams.
Education[edit | edit source]
Tripura has several universities and colleges offering courses in various disciplines. The literacy rate of Tripura was 87.75% as per the 2011 census, which is higher than the national average.
Health[edit | edit source]
The state has a number of hospitals, health centres, and dispensaries. However, the state faces challenges in terms of health care delivery, due to its hilly terrain and scattered habitation.
