Tru (restaurant)

Tru was a gourmet restaurant located in Chicago, Illinois, United States. It was renowned for its innovative and sophisticated cuisine, and was considered one of the finest dining establishments in the city.

Tru was opened in 1999 by renowned chefs Rick Tramonto and Gale Gand, along with their business partner Rich Melman. The restaurant quickly gained a reputation for its unique and innovative dishes, and was awarded a Michelin star in 2010. Despite its success, Tru closed its doors in 2017.

Tru was known for its innovative and sophisticated cuisine. The menu was a blend of French and American influences, with a focus on fresh, high-quality ingredients. Dishes were often presented in a theatrical manner, with some served on custom-designed tableware.

Over the years, Tru received numerous awards and accolades. In 2007, it was awarded a Michelin star, a prestigious honor in the culinary world. It was also recognized by the James Beard Foundation, with Chef Tramonto winning the award for Best Chef: Midwest in 2002.

Tru was located in the heart of Chicago, in the upscale Streeterville neighborhood. The restaurant's interior was designed by Jordan Mozer, and was known for its sleek, modern design and luxurious atmosphere.

Closure[edit | edit source]

Despite its success and acclaim, Tru closed its doors in October 2017. The closure was announced by Lettuce Entertain You Enterprises, the restaurant group that owned Tru. The reasons for the closure were not publicly disclosed.

Legacy[edit | edit source]

Though Tru is no longer in operation, its influence on the Chicago dining scene and the wider culinary world is still felt. Many of the chefs who trained at Tru have gone on to open their own successful restaurants, carrying on the legacy of innovation and excellence that Tru was known for.
