Role in human sexuality[edit | edit source]
Tumescence, like in penile tumescence, refers to the normal engorgement with blood of the erectile tissues, marking sexual excitation, and readiness for sexual activity.
Tumescent sexual organs[edit | edit source]
The tumescent sexual organ in men is the penis and in women is the clitoris and the vestibular bulbs.
Nocturnal penile tumescence testing[edit | edit source]
The nocturnal penile tumescence (NPT) stamp test is a test that can be done at home that confirms the inability to achieve and maintain an erection by placing a stamp around the penis before sleep and if the stamp comes loose, it is likely that there is nocturnal tumescence.
