The University Hospital of Northern British Columbia (UHNBC) is the largest Level III trauma centre in Northern BC. It is located in Prince George, British Columbia, Canada. History[edit | edit source]

The University Hospital has a rich history with multiple predecessors. The first hospital in the area was a railway construction hospital built in 1914. A private hospital and the 'Pine Manor' hospital followed in 1918. The immediate predecessor to the University Hospital opened in 1945 and had 112 beds.

In the 1950s, it was determined that a new hospital was needed. A sod turning ceremony for the new hospital took place on May 14, 1958. The University Hospital was officially opened on January 16, 1960, by provincial health minister Eric Martin. Over 7,000 people attended tours of the hospital during the opening weekend.

Today, the University Hospital of Northern British Columbia continues to provide high-quality healthcare services to the region, while also serving as a training ground for future doctors through its affiliation with the Northern Medical Program.
