University of Erlangen-Nuremberg (Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg, FAU) is a public research university in the cities of Erlangen and Nuremberg in Bavaria, Germany. Named after its founders, Friedrich, Margrave of Brandenburg-Bayreuth, and Christian Frederick Charles Alexander, Margrave of Brandenburg-Ansbach, FAU is the second largest state university in Bavaria. It comprises five faculties covering a broad spectrum of disciplines from the humanities and social sciences to engineering, natural sciences, and medicine.

The University of Erlangen-Nuremberg was founded in 1742 in Erlangen, initially as a theological and philosophical college. It expanded over the centuries to include faculties of law, medicine, and sciences. In 1961, the university incorporated the School of Business, Economics, and Social Sciences located in Nuremberg, becoming a comprehensive university.
