University of Southern California (USC) is a private research university located in Los Angeles, California, United States. It is one of the oldest private research universities in California, having been founded in 1880 by Robert Maclay Widney. USC has historically placed a strong emphasis on education, research, and community service. Over the years, it has grown to become a leading institution recognized globally for its contributions to various fields, including medicine, engineering, business, and the arts.

The University of Southern California was established in 1880, thanks to the efforts of Judge Robert Maclay Widney, who secured donations of land and funds to start the university.
