The University of Zurich (UZH) is a public research university located in Zürich, Switzerland. Founded in 1833, it is the largest university in Switzerland, with a diverse range of programs and a strong emphasis on research and academic excellence.

The University of Zurich was established in 1833 from the existing colleges of theology, law, medicine, and a new faculty of philosophy. It was the first university in Europe to be founded by a democratic state rather than a monarch or church. One of the most famous figures associated with the University of Zurich is Albert Einstein, who was a professor of theoretical physics at the university from 1909 to 1911.
