Urs Rohner
Urs Rohner (born 19 November 1959) is a Swiss lawyer and businessman. He served as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Credit Suisse Group AG from 2011 to 2021.
Early life and education[edit | edit source]
Urs Rohner was born in Zurich, Switzerland. He studied law at the University of Zurich, where he graduated with a degree in law in 1983. He later obtained a doctorate in law from the same university in 1986.
Career[edit | edit source]
Rohner began his career as an attorney at the law firm Bär & Karrer in Zurich. In 1999, he joined ProSieben Media AG, a German media company, as Chief Operating Officer (COO) and General Counsel. He was promoted to Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in 2000.
In 2004, Rohner joined Credit Suisse as General Counsel and a member of the Executive Board. He was appointed as the Chief Operating Officer (COO) in 2006 and later served as the CEO of Credit Suisse Switzerland from 2008 to 2009.
In 2011, Rohner was appointed as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Credit Suisse Group AG, a position he held until 2021. During his tenure, he oversaw the bank's strategic direction and governance.
Personal life[edit | edit source]
Rohner is fluent in German, English, and French. He is a member of the Swiss Bar Association and the Zurich Bar Association.
