- Vance County is a county located in the U.S. state of North Carolina. As of the 2010 census, the population was 45,422. Its county seat is Henderson. The county was formed in 1881 from parts of Granville County, Franklin County, and Warren County. It was named after Zebulon Baird Vance, Governor of North Carolina during the American Civil War and again from 1877 to 1879.
