Vernon County is a county located in the southwestern part of the U.S. state of Wisconsin. As of the 2020 census, the population was 30,714. The county seat is Viroqua. The county was created in 1851 and named for the French word for "green," ver, to reflect the area's lush vegetation.

Vernon County covers an area of 816 square miles, of which 792 square miles is land and 24 square miles is water. The county is characterized by its rolling hills, valleys, and numerous rivers and streams, including the Kickapoo River.

Vernon County was originally part of Crawford County and was established as a separate entity in 1851. The county has a rich history of agriculture, particularly dairy farming, and has been influenced by various waves of immigration, including Norwegian and German settlers.
