Vertex
(Redirected from Vertexes)
Vertex (Anatomy)
The vertex in anatomy refers to the highest point on the human skull, often used as a reference point in medicine and neurology. It is located approximately in the middle of the parietal bones.
Anatomical Position[edit | edit source]
The vertex is positioned on the superior (top) part of the skull, roughly in line with the ears. It is the point where the two parietal bones and the two halves of the frontal bone meet. This point is also known as the bregma.
Clinical Significance[edit | edit source]
The vertex is often used as a reference point in medical procedures, such as cranial ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). It is also used in the measurement of head circumference in infants and children, which can be an important indicator of normal brain development.
