History[edit | edit source]
The Visayas region has a rich history dating back to pre-colonial times. It was part of the Sri Vijaya empire and later the Majapahit Empire. The arrival of Ferdinand Magellan in 1521 marked the beginning of Spanish influence and the spread of Roman Catholicism in the region.

The Visayas is known for its distinct culture. The region is the traditional home of the Visayan people, the largest ethnic group in the Philippines. The Visayans have a rich heritage of music, literature, and dance, such as the traditional Sinulog festival in Cebu and the Ati-Atihan festival in Aklan.

The economy of the Visayas is diverse and includes agriculture, fishing, and industry. The region is known for its sugar production, particularly in Negros Occidental, and its fish exports. Cebu, the region's largest city, is the economic hub of the Visayas, with industries ranging from shipbuilding to furniture-making and tourism.
Cuisine[edit | edit source]
Visayan cuisine is known for its exotic and flavorful dishes. Some of the most popular dishes include Lechon, a whole roasted pig, and Bacolod's famous chicken inasal. Seafood is also a staple in the Visayan diet, given the region's abundant marine resources.
