Vomiting center

From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellness Encyclopedia

Vomiting center - a group of nerve cells located in the brainstem that control the reflex act of vomiting. When stimulated, these nerve cells signal to the muscles of the stomach and diaphragm to contract and expel the contents of the stomach through the mouth. The vomiting center can be stimulated by various factors, such as infections, toxins, and certain medications.
