Wedding Anniversary

A Wedding anniversary is the anniversary of the date a wedding took place. Traditional names exist for some of them: for instance, fifty years of marriage is called a "Golden wedding anniversary" or simply a "golden anniversary" or "golden." Twenty-five years is silver or silver anniversary And sixty years is Diamond or Diamond anniversary.

Traditional and modern anniversary gifts[edit | edit source]

Gifts given on wedding anniversaries vary in different countries. The tradition of giving specific gifts for specific anniversaries dates back to the Middle Ages. In the United States, one can receive a greeting from the President of the United States on the 50th and all subsequent wedding anniversaries.

Anniversary symbols[edit | edit source]

Many anniversaries have specific types of gifts associated with them. These are often referred to as the 'traditional' and 'modern' materials for each anniversary.

Celebration and gifts[edit | edit source]

The names of some anniversaries provide guidance for appropriate or traditional gifts for the spouses to give each other; if there is a party these can be brought by the guests or influence the theme or decoration.
