Wesley C. Skiles
Wesley C. Skiles (1958–2010) was an American underwater cinematographer and explorer known for his contributions to the field of cave diving. Skiles was a pioneer in the use of scuba diving equipment and techniques for exploring underwater caves, and his work has been featured in numerous documentaries and publications.
Early life and education[edit | edit source]
Skiles was born in Jacksonville, Florida in 1958. He developed an interest in scuba diving at a young age and began exploring underwater caves as a teenager. He attended the University of Florida, where he studied geology and hydrology.
Career[edit | edit source]
Skiles began his career as a professional diver and underwater photographer in the late 1970s. He worked on numerous underwater exploration and photography projects, including the exploration of the Blue Holes in the Bahamas and the cenotes in Mexico. Skiles was also involved in the exploration of the Wakulla Springs in Florida, where he helped to map one of the largest underwater cave systems in the world.
In addition to his exploration work, Skiles was a successful underwater cinematographer. His work was featured in numerous documentaries and publications, including National Geographic. Skiles' cinematography was known for its stunning visuals and innovative use of lighting and camera techniques.
