West Covina
West Covina is a city located in Los Angeles County, California, in the San Gabriel Valley. It is one of the more populous suburbs of Los Angeles, with a population of over 100,000 residents. The city was incorporated in 1923 to prevent the city of Covina from establishing a sewage farm within the current city boundaries.

West Covina was established as a city in 1923, with the primary goal of preventing the neighboring city of Covina from establishing a sewage farm within the current city boundaries. The city has grown rapidly since its incorporation, with the population increasing from 4,499 in 1940 to 105,080 in 2010.
Geography[edit | edit source]
West Covina is located at the eastern end of the San Gabriel Valley and is bordered by Covina to its north and east, Baldwin Park to its west, and the unincorporated community of Valinda to its south. The city is approximately 18 miles east of downtown Los Angeles.
Economy[edit | edit source]
The city's economy is largely based on retail and services. The Westfield West Covina shopping mall is a major draw, featuring numerous big box retailers, a movie theater, and a variety of restaurants. Other significant employers in the city include the Citrus Valley Medical Center and the West Covina Unified School District.
Education[edit | edit source]
West Covina is served by the West Covina Unified School District, which operates several elementary, middle, and high schools. The city is also home to a campus of North-West College, a private vocational college.
Transportation[edit | edit source]
West Covina is served by several major freeways, including the San Bernardino Freeway (I-10) and the Orange Freeway (SR-57). The city also operates a local bus service, the Go West Transit.
