White Castle (restaurant)
White Castle is an American regional hamburger restaurant chain with locations primarily in the Midwest with additional locations throughout the New York metropolitan area, three locations in Nevada, and a location in Shanghai, China. It has been generally credited as the country's first fast food chain. It is known for its small, square hamburgers referred to as "sliders". The company was founded in Wichita, Kansas in 1921 and is headquartered in Columbus, Ohio.

White Castle was founded by Billy Ingram and Walter Anderson in Wichita, Kansas. The original location was opened in 1921 under the name 'White Castle System of Eating Houses Corporation'. The name 'White Castle' was chosen to counteract the public fear of the unsanitary conditions of the food industry at the time. The white exterior and the castle-like design of the original restaurants were meant to convey a sense of cleanliness.
Menu[edit | edit source]
White Castle's most famous offering, the 'slider', is a small hamburger with onions and a pickle. Other menu items include chicken and fish sliders, cheese fries, and an assortment of milkshakes. The restaurant also offers a breakfast menu that includes a variety of sliders, such as egg and cheese, sausage and cheese, and bacon, egg, and cheese.
In popular culture[edit | edit source]
White Castle has been featured in various forms of media and popular culture. The most notable is the 2004 film Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle, in which the main characters embark on a journey to find a White Castle restaurant.
