William I. Sirovich
William I. Sirovich (March 18, 1882 – December 17, 1939) was an American politician and physician who served as a member of the United States House of Representatives from New York. He was a member of the Democratic Party.
Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]
William I. Sirovich was born in York, Pennsylvania. He attended the public schools and graduated from the College of the City of New York in 1902. He later earned his medical degree from the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in 1906.
Medical Career[edit | edit source]
After completing his education, Sirovich began practicing medicine in New York City. He was also involved in various medical organizations and contributed to medical literature. His work in the medical field earned him recognition and respect among his peers.
Political Career[edit | edit source]
Sirovich entered politics as a member of the New York State Assembly, serving from 1921 to 1923. He was then elected to the United States House of Representatives in 1926, representing New York's 14th congressional district. He served in Congress from March 4, 1927, until his death on December 17, 1939.
During his time in Congress, Sirovich was known for his advocacy on behalf of labor rights and social welfare programs. He was a strong supporter of the New Deal policies implemented by President Franklin D. Roosevelt.
Death and Legacy[edit | edit source]
William I. Sirovich passed away on December 17, 1939, in New York City. He was interred in the Mount Hebron Cemetery in Flushing, Queens.
Sirovich's contributions to both medicine and politics left a lasting impact on his community and the nation. His work in Congress helped shape important social policies during a critical period in American history.
