William Trevitt
William Trevitt (1809 – 1881) was an American physician, politician, and diplomat. He served as the Ohio Secretary of State and was a member of the Ohio House of Representatives. Trevitt also held diplomatic positions in South America.
Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]
William Trevitt was born in 1809 in Delaware County, Ohio. He pursued a career in medicine, studying at the Ohio Medical College where he earned his medical degree.
Medical Career[edit | edit source]
After completing his education, Trevitt began practicing medicine in Columbus, Ohio. He became well-known in the community for his medical expertise and dedication to public health.
Political Career[edit | edit source]
Trevitt's interest in public service led him to enter politics. He was elected to the Ohio House of Representatives where he served multiple terms. His political career further advanced when he was elected as the Ohio Secretary of State, a position he held from 1852 to 1856.
Diplomatic Service[edit | edit source]
In addition to his medical and political careers, Trevitt also served as a diplomat. He was appointed as the U.S. Consul to Peru and later to Chile. His diplomatic service was marked by his efforts to strengthen relations between the United States and these South American countries.

After his diplomatic service, Trevitt returned to Ohio where he continued to practice medicine until his death in 1881.
