History[edit | edit source]
Wilmar Sugar was established in 1991 by Kuok Khoon Hong and Martua Sitorus. The company initially focused on the palm oil business in Indonesia. Over the years, it expanded its operations to include a wide range of agricultural commodities, including sugar.
Sugar Operations[edit | edit source]
Wilmar Sugar is one of the largest sugar producers in the world. The company owns and operates eight sugar mills in North Queensland, Australia, which produce raw and refined sugar, molasses, and renewable energy.
Wilmar Sugar's operations are vertically integrated, encompassing the entire sugar production process from cane growing and milling to refining, packaging, and distribution. The company's sugar products are marketed under the CSR Sugar brand in Australia and the Chelsea Sugar brand in New Zealand.
Sustainability[edit | edit source]
Wilmar Sugar is committed to sustainable practices in its operations. The company has implemented a range of initiatives to reduce its environmental impact, including the use of renewable energy generated from bagasse, a by-product of sugar cane processing.
