Yamaguchi Prefecture is a prefecture located in the Chūgoku region of Japan. The capital city is Yamaguchi City.

Yamaguchi Prefecture was created by the merger of the provinces of Suō and Nagato. During the Heian period, present-day Yamaguchi was part of the Heian-controlled territories.

Geography[edit | edit source]

Yamaguchi Prefecture is located in the westernmost part of Honshu, the largest island of Japan. It is bordered by the Sea of Japan to the north, the Seto Inland Sea to the south, and the Kanmon Straits to the west.
