ZBTB21
ZBTB21 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the ZBTB21 gene. The ZBTB21 gene is located on chromosome 21 and is involved in the regulation of gene expression.
Function[edit | edit source]
The ZBTB21 protein is a member of the BTB/POZ domain containing proteins. These proteins are characterized by the presence of a broad-complex, tramtrack, and bric-a-brac (BTB) domain and a POZ domain. The BTB/POZ domain is involved in protein-protein interactions and the regulation of chromatin structure and gene expression. The exact function of the ZBTB21 protein is not fully understood, but it is believed to play a role in the regulation of gene expression.
Clinical significance[edit | edit source]
Mutations in the ZBTB21 gene have been associated with intellectual disability and developmental delay. In particular, a specific mutation in the ZBTB21 gene has been identified in individuals with Down syndrome-like features. However, the exact role of the ZBTB21 gene in these conditions is not fully understood and further research is needed.
Research[edit | edit source]
Research into the ZBTB21 gene and its associated protein is ongoing. Current research is focused on understanding the exact function of the ZBTB21 protein and how mutations in the ZBTB21 gene contribute to intellectual disability and developmental delay.
