Zach Wilson (born August 3, 1999) is an American football quarterback for the New York Jets of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Brigham Young University (BYU) and was selected second overall by the Jets in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Early Life and High School[edit | edit source]

Wilson was born in Draper, Utah. He attended Corner Canyon High School, where he played high school football. During his senior year, he passed for 2,986 yards and 24 touchdowns, and rushed for 752 yards and eight touchdowns. He initially committed to play college football at Boise State University but later changed his commitment to Brigham Young University.

College Career[edit | edit source]

Wilson enrolled at BYU in 2018. As a freshman, he played in nine games and started in seven, completing 120 of 182 passes for 1,578 yards with 12 touchdowns and three interceptions. In his sophomore year, he played in nine games, completing 199 of 319 passes for 2,382 yards with 11 touchdowns and nine interceptions.

Wilson's breakout season came in 2020, where he led BYU to an 11-1 record. He completed 247 of 336 passes for 3,692 yards, 33 touchdowns, and three interceptions. His performance earned him several accolades, including being named the MVP of the 2020 Boca Raton Bowl.

New York Jets[edit | edit source]

Wilson declared for the 2021 NFL Draft following his junior year and was selected by the New York Jets with the second overall pick. He signed his rookie contract with the Jets on July 29, 2021. Wilson made his NFL debut on September 12, 2021, against the Carolina Panthers. Despite a challenging rookie season, he showed flashes of potential and is considered a key part of the Jets' future.

Wilson is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He has been open about his faith and how it influences his life and career.
