4-HO-MALT

From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellness Encyclopedia

4-HO-MALT (4-Hydroxy-N-methyl-N-allyltryptamine) is a psychedelic tryptamine that is a derivative of magic mushrooms. It is less common than other psychedelic tryptamines and is often used for its psychoactive effects.

Chemistry[edit | edit source]

4-HO-MALT, or 4-Hydroxy-N-methyl-N-allyltryptamine, is a synthetic indole alkaloid molecule of the tryptamine class. Tryptamines share a core structure comprised of a bicyclic indole heterocycle attached at R3 to an amino group via an ethyl side chain. 4-HO-MALT is substituted at R4 of its indole heterocycle with a hydroxyl functional group OH−. It also contains a methyl group and an allyl chain bound to the terminal amine RN of its tryptamine backbone (MALT).

Pharmacology[edit | edit source]

The pharmacological actions of 4-HO-MALT are not fully understood. As a psychedelic tryptamine, it is believed to act principally as a 5-HT2A receptor agonist, a receptor that is distributed throughout the human central nervous system. The 5-HT2A receptor is involved in cognitive processes in the prefrontal cortex, and its activation can lead to hallucinations, altered thinking processes, and other effects typical of psychedelic drugs.

Effects[edit | edit source]

The effects of 4-HO-MALT can vary greatly depending on the dose, individual physiology, and set and setting. Common effects reported by users include visual hallucinations, enhanced introspection, euphoria, and altered perception of time. Some users also report experiencing negative effects such as anxiety, nausea, and uncomfortable body sensations.

Legal Status[edit | edit source]

The legal status of 4-HO-MALT varies by country. In some countries, it is a controlled substance, while in others it is legal to possess for personal use. It is always important to understand the legal implications of possessing or using any psychoactive substance.
