5-MeO-MiPT

From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

5-MeO-MiPT (also known as 5-Methoxy-N-methyl-N-isopropyltryptamine and Moxy) is a psychedelic and hallucinogenic drug, used recreationally for its euphoric and entheogenic effects. It is a member of the tryptamine class of compounds and is structurally related to the classic psychedelic DMT (Dimethyltryptamine).

Chemistry[edit | edit source]

5-MeO-MiPT is a synthetic compound of the tryptamine class. Tryptamines share a core structure comprised of a bicyclic indole heterocycle attached at R3 to an amino group via an ethyl side chain. 5-MeO-MiPT is substituted at R5 of its indole heterocycle with a methoxy (MeO) functional group CH3O−; it also contains two methyl groups CH3- bound to the terminal amine RN of its tryptamine backbone (MiPT).

Pharmacology[edit | edit source]

The pharmacology of 5-MeO-MiPT is not fully understood. It is thought to act as a serotonin receptor agonist, similar to other psychedelic tryptamines. This means it binds to and activates certain serotonin receptors in the brain, leading to its psychedelic effects. It is also thought to have some monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) activity, although this is less well understood.

Effects[edit | edit source]

The effects of 5-MeO-MiPT can vary widely depending on the dose, individual physiology, and set and setting. Common effects reported by users include intense visual hallucinations, enhanced sensory perception, euphoria, feelings of love and empathy, and introspective insights. Negative effects can include anxiety, paranoia, nausea, and risk of dangerous behavior due to altered perception of reality.

Legal Status[edit | edit source]

The legal status of 5-MeO-MiPT varies by country. In the United States, it is not specifically listed as a controlled substance, but it may be considered an analog of other illegal tryptamines under the Federal Analog Act. In the United Kingdom, it is a Class A drug under the Misuse of Drugs Act.
