5-MeO-DMT

5-MeO-DMT is a psychedelic of the tryptamine class. It is found in a wide variety of plant species, and at least one toad species, the Sonora Desert toad. It is also produced synthetically.

Chemistry[edit | edit source]

5-MeO-DMT is a methoxy derivative of DMT. Its full chemical name is 5-methoxy-N,N-dimethyltryptamine. It has a molecular weight of 218.3 g/mol and a chemical formula of C13H18N2O.

Pharmacology[edit | edit source]

5-MeO-DMT acts as a serotonin agonist. It has a high affinity for the 5-HT2A and 5-HT1A receptors. It also inhibits the reuptake of serotonin, leading to increased concentrations of this neurotransmitter in the brain.

Effects[edit | edit source]

The effects of 5-MeO-DMT are highly dose-dependent and vary greatly among individuals. They can include hallucinations, euphoria, anxiety, and panic attacks. The onset of effects is rapid and the duration is short, typically lasting less than an hour.

Legal status[edit | edit source]

The legal status of 5-MeO-DMT varies by country. In the United States, it is a Schedule I controlled substance. In Canada, it is a Schedule III controlled substance. In the United Kingdom, it is a Class A drug.
