JWH-098

From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

JWH-098 is a synthetic cannabinoid from the naphthoylindole family. It acts as a full agonist at both the CB1 and CB2 cannabinoid receptors, with a binding affinity of 9.0 nM at CB1 and 2.94 nM at CB2. JWH-098 is one of the compounds in the JWH series developed by John W. Huffman, an organic chemist at Clemson University.

Chemistry[edit | edit source]

JWH-098 is a member of the naphthoylindole family of synthetic cannabinoids. It is structurally related to other synthetic cannabinoids such as JWH-018 and JWH-073. The compound is named after its developer, John W. Huffman, who first synthesized these compounds in the 1990s.

Pharmacology[edit | edit source]

JWH-098 acts as a full agonist at the CB1 and CB2 cannabinoid receptors. The CB1 receptor is primarily located in the brain, and is responsible for the psychoactive effects of cannabinoids. The CB2 receptor is primarily found in the immune system. The binding affinity of JWH-098 is 9.0 nM at CB1 and 2.94 nM at CB2.

Effects[edit | edit source]

The effects of JWH-098 are similar to those of other synthetic cannabinoids and include psychoactive effects due to its agonist activity at the CB1 receptor. These effects can include euphoria, altered perception, and adverse effects such as anxiety and paranoia.

Legal Status[edit | edit source]

The legal status of JWH-098 varies by country and is often subject to change. In many jurisdictions, it is classified as a controlled substance due to its psychoactive properties.
