O-Acetylpsilocin

From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellnesspedia

O-Acetylpsilocin (also known as 4-AcO-DMT, 4-Acetoxy-DMT, or Psilacetin) is a synthetically produced psychoactive drug that has been suggested by David Nichols to be a potentially useful alternative to psilocybin for pharmacological studies, as they are both believed to be prodrugs of psilocin.

Chemistry[edit | edit source]

O-Acetylpsilocin is a semi-synthetic compound which is believed to be a synthetic analog of psilocybin. It is a acetylated form of the psilocybin molecule, and it is a lower homolog of 4-AcO-DET, 4-AcO-MiPT and 4-AcO-DiPT. The compound is a dimethylated indole, in essence, a tryptamine, with a four-substituted acetoxy group.

Pharmacology[edit | edit source]

The pharmacology of O-Acetylpsilocin is not well known. It is thought to be a prodrug of psilocin, however, there is debate in the scientific community over whether it is capable of exerting its own effects. It is metabolized by the body into psilocin, a compound which is active in the brain and is responsible for the psychedelic effects of the drug.

Effects[edit | edit source]

The effects of O-Acetylpsilocin are similar to those of psilocybin and psilocin. It is reported to produce a full range of high level hallucinatory states in a fashion that is more consistent and reproducible than other commonly used psychedelics. These effects include visual distortions, enhanced colors, light trails, and geometric patterns. Users also report experiencing deep introspection, euphoria, and altered perception of time.

Legality[edit | edit source]

The legality of O-Acetylpsilocin varies by country. In the United States, it is classified as a Schedule I controlled substance, making it illegal to manufacture, buy, possess, or distribute without a license from the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). In the United Kingdom, it is a Class A drug under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971, making it illegal to sell, buy, or possess without a license.
