Chemistry[edit | edit source]

JWH-148 is part of the naphthoylindole family of synthetic cannabinoids. It is structurally related to other synthetic cannabinoids including JWH-018, JWH-073, and JWH-200.

Pharmacology[edit | edit source]

JWH-148 acts as a full agonist at both the CB1 and CB2 cannabinoid receptors, with a moderate selectivity for the CB2 receptor. The CB1 receptor is primarily located in the brain, and its activation results in the psychoactive effects of cannabis. The CB2 receptor is primarily found in the immune system.

Legality[edit | edit source]

In many jurisdictions, JWH-148 is not specifically listed as illegal, but its sale may be controlled under analog laws which cover any chemical similar in structure and/or pharmacological effect to a scheduled substance.
