O-2113

From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellness Encyclopedia

O-2113 is a drug that acts as a potent and selective agonist for the cannabinoid receptor CB2, with reasonable selectivity over the psychoactive CB1 receptor, though with some variation between species. It has analgesic effects in animal studies, particularly against "atypical" pain stimuli, and has also been shown to produce anxiolytic effects.

Pharmacology[edit | edit source]

O-2113 is part of a group of related compounds that also include O-2050 and O-2654. These compounds are all cannabinoid agonists, with a particular affinity for the CB2 receptor. The CB2 receptor is primarily found in the immune system, and is less commonly found in the central nervous system. Activation of this receptor is associated with analgesic effects, without the psychoactive effects associated with activation of the CB1 receptor.

Medical Uses[edit | edit source]

In animal studies, O-2113 has been shown to have potential as a treatment for pain, particularly "atypical" pain stimuli. It has also been shown to produce anxiolytic effects. However, further research is needed to determine its potential for use in humans.
