7-Hydroxycannabidiol
7-Hydroxycannabidiol (also known as 7-OH-CBD) is a metabolite of cannabidiol (CBD), one of the primary cannabinoids found in cannabis. It is produced in the body after consumption of CBD, through the process of metabolism.
Chemistry[edit | edit source]
7-Hydroxycannabidiol is a hydroxy derivative of cannabidiol. It is formed when cannabidiol undergoes oxidation in the body, a process facilitated by enzymes such as cytochrome P450. The resulting compound has a hydroxy group (-OH) attached to the 7th carbon atom of the cannabidiol molecule.
Pharmacology[edit | edit source]
The pharmacological properties of 7-hydroxycannabidiol are not fully understood. However, it is known that, like cannabidiol, it interacts with the endocannabinoid system in the body. This system plays a role in a variety of physiological processes, including pain perception, mood, and appetite.
Research and Potential Therapeutic Uses[edit | edit source]
Research into the potential therapeutic uses of 7-hydroxycannabidiol is ongoing. Some studies suggest that it may have anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective effects, similar to those of cannabidiol. However, more research is needed to fully understand its potential benefits and risks.
