A-423579

From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellness Encyclopedia

A-423579 is a drug that acts as a selective antagonist for the calcium channel TRPV1. It has analgesic effects and is used in scientific research.

Pharmacology[edit | edit source]

A-423579 is a TRPV1 antagonist. TRPV1 is a member of the transient receptor potential channel family and is one of the non-selective cation channels that are responsible for detecting noxious stimuli. This makes TRPV1 a target for the development of analgesics.

The drug A-423579 selectively blocks the TRPV1 channel, preventing the flow of cations, such as calcium, into the cell. This reduces the ability of the cell to respond to painful stimuli, producing an analgesic effect.

Uses[edit | edit source]

A-423579 is used in scientific research to study the role of TRPV1 channels in pain perception. It has been used in animal studies to investigate the effects of TRPV1 antagonists on pain responses.
