ACR score
ACR Score is a medical scoring system used to measure the severity of Rheumatoid Arthritis. It was developed by the American College of Rheumatology (ACR) and is widely used in clinical trials and research studies.
Overview[edit]
The ACR score is a composite score that includes measures of inflammation, pain, and physical function. It is calculated based on the results of a physical examination, laboratory tests, and patient-reported outcomes.
Components of the ACR Score[edit]
The ACR score includes the following components:
- Tender Joint Count (TJC): This is a count of the number of joints that are tender to touch. The maximum score is 68.
- Swollen Joint Count (SJC): This is a count of the number of joints that are swollen. The maximum score is 66.
- Patient's Assessment of Pain: This is a measure of the patient's perception of their pain level. It is usually measured on a scale of 0 to 10, with 10 being the worst possible pain.
- Patient's Global Assessment of Disease Activity: This is a measure of the patient's overall perception of their disease activity. It is usually measured on a scale of 0 to 10, with 10 being the worst possible disease activity.
- Physician's Global Assessment of Disease Activity: This is a measure of the physician's perception of the patient's disease activity. It is usually measured on a scale of 0 to 10, with 10 being the worst possible disease activity.
- Health Assessment Questionnaire (HAQ): This is a questionnaire that measures the patient's physical function. It includes questions about the patient's ability to perform daily activities such as dressing, eating, and walking.
Calculation of the ACR Score[edit]
The ACR score is calculated by adding up the scores from the above components. The total score can range from 0 to 300, with higher scores indicating more severe disease.
Use of the ACR Score[edit]
The ACR score is used in clinical trials and research studies to measure the effectiveness of treatments for rheumatoid arthritis. It is also used in clinical practice to monitor disease activity and guide treatment decisions.
