American College of Rheumatology

Commonly abbreviated as ACR, the American college of Rheumatology is the official professional physician organization responsible for advancing the field of rheumatology.

Established in the year 1935, headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, the ACR is a non-profit organization that promotes education, research, advocacy and practice support relating to the care of people with arthritis and rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases.

Driven by memberships, and sponsorships from pharmaceutical industry, it is a global medical society that serves over 7,700 physicians, health professionals, and scientists worldwide.

ACR scientific meetings[edit | edit source]

ACR organizes scientific meetings, publishes two medical journals (Arthritis & Rheumatology and Arthritis Care & Research), and promotes (through the Research and Education Foundation) research into rheumatological conditions, including the formulation of diagnostic criteria for diseases.

Its division, the Association of Rheumatology Health Professionals, represents non-physician health care professionals in the field.

Rheumatology Research Foundation[edit | edit source]

Established as a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, the Rheumatology Research Foundation works to advance research and training to improve the health of people with rheumatic diseases.

ACR's vision is to be the leading authority and trusted partner of rheumatology professionals, the ACR will continually advance the specialty and the future of rheumatology.
