Abbeville County is a county located in the state of South Carolina, in the United States. As of the 2020 census, the population was 22,835. The county seat is Abbeville. The county was formed in 1785 and named after the town of Abbeville, France.

History

Abbeville County was established in 1785, one of the original counties created in the state of South Carolina. The county has a rich history, including its role in the American Civil War and its significance in the development of the Southern United States.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 511 square miles (1,320 km²), of which 490 square miles (1,300 km²) is land and 21 square miles (54 km²) (4.1%) is water.
