Abraham Myers

Abraham Myers was a United States Army officer and a Confederate States Army officer during the American Civil War. He is best known for his role as the Quartermaster General of the Confederate States Army.

Early Life and Career[edit | edit source]

Abraham Charles Myers was born on May 14, 1811, in Georgetown, South Carolina. He graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1833. Myers served in the Second Seminole War and the Mexican-American War, where he distinguished himself and earned promotions.

Confederate Service[edit | edit source]

When the American Civil War broke out in 1861, Myers resigned from the United States Army and joined the Confederate States Army. He was appointed as the Quartermaster General of the Confederate Army by Jefferson Davis, the President of the Confederate States. In this role, Myers was responsible for the logistics and supply chain of the Confederate military forces.

Legacy[edit | edit source]

The city of Fort Myers, Florida, is named in his honor. The fort was established during the Third Seminole War and later became a significant location during the Civil War.
