The Aegean Sea is connected to the Sea of Marmara and the Black Sea by the Dardanelles and the Bosporus. The Aegean Islands, which are the group of islands within the sea, are primarily located in its southern and eastern parts.

Its southernmost point is the island of Crete, and its easternmost point is the Turkish mainland.
