Alan Grayson (born March 13, 1958) is an American politician and member of the Democratic Party. He served as the U.S. Representative for Florida's 8th congressional district from 2009 to 2011 and for Florida's 9th congressional district from 2013 to 2017.

Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]

Grayson was born in The Bronx, New York City. He attended Harvard College, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in economics in 1978. He then earned a Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School in 1983 and a Master of Public Policy from the John F. Kennedy School of Government in 1983.

Legal Career[edit | edit source]

Before entering politics, Grayson worked as a lawyer specializing in whistleblower cases aimed at combating fraud against the federal government. He founded the law firm Grayson & Kubli, which focused on False Claims Act cases.

Grayson first ran for Congress in 2006 but was unsuccessful. He ran again in 2008 and won, serving Florida's 8th congressional district. During his tenure, he was known for his outspoken and often controversial statements. He lost his re-election bid in 2010 but returned to Congress in 2012, representing Florida's 9th congressional district.

Grayson was known for his advocacy on issues such as healthcare reform, financial regulation, and civil liberties. He was a vocal critic of the Iraq War and supported efforts to end it. He also introduced legislation aimed at increasing transparency in government and protecting consumers.

Personal Life[edit | edit source]

Grayson has five children. He has been married twice, first to Lolita Grayson and then to Dena Minning, a medical doctor and candidate for Congress.

Grayson has participated in several elections, with varying degrees of success. His notable campaigns include his initial victory in 2008, his loss in 2010, and his return to Congress in 2012.
