Alaró

Alaró is a municipality in the district of Raiguer on Majorca, one of the Balearic Islands, Spain. It is situated in a beautiful and fertile plain, surrounded by mountains. The municipality covers an area of 45.50 square kilometers and as of 2018, it has a population of 5,273.

The history of Alaró dates back to the prehistoric times, with the first settlements recorded in the area being those of the prehistoric people. The town was later inhabited by the Romans, and then by the Moors before being reconquered by the Christians in the 13th century.

Geography[edit | edit source]

Alaró is located in the northern part of the island of Majorca, about 27 kilometers from the capital, Palma. The municipality is surrounded by two mountains, the Puig de Alaró and the Puig de s'Alcadena. The town is known for its beautiful landscapes, including the Alaró Castle, which offers stunning views of the island.

The economy of Alaró is mainly based on agriculture, with the cultivation of almonds, olives, and grapes being the main activities. The town is also known for its shoe industry, with several factories located in the area.

Culture[edit | edit source]

Alaró is rich in culture and traditions, with several festivals and events taking place throughout the year. The most important of these is the Festa dels Rei En Jaume, which commemorates the Christian reconquest of the island.

Health[edit | edit source]

Alaró has a local health center that provides basic medical services to the residents. For more specialized treatments, residents usually go to the larger hospitals in Palma.
