Alec Kessler
Alec Christopher Kessler (January 13, 1967 – October 13, 2007) was an American basketball player and orthopedic surgeon. He is best known for his career in college basketball and his brief stint in the National Basketball Association (NBA).
Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]
Alec Kessler was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He attended Roswell High School in Roswell, Georgia, where he excelled in basketball. Kessler went on to play college basketball at the University of Georgia, where he became one of the most prominent players in the school's history.
College Career[edit | edit source]
Kessler played for the Georgia Bulldogs from 1986 to 1990. During his time at Georgia, he was a standout player, earning numerous accolades. He was named to the All-SEC team and was a two-time Academic All-American. Kessler finished his college career as the all-time leading scorer for the Bulldogs, a record that stood for several years.
Professional Career[edit | edit source]
Kessler was selected by the Houston Rockets as the 12th overall pick in the 1990 NBA Draft. However, he was traded to the Miami Heat before the start of the season. Kessler played for the Heat from 1990 to 1994. During his NBA career, he played as a power forward and center. Despite showing promise, Kessler's professional career was hampered by injuries, and he retired from basketball in 1994.
Medical Career[edit | edit source]
After retiring from professional basketball, Kessler pursued a career in medicine. He attended the Emory University School of Medicine and became an orthopedic surgeon. Kessler specialized in sports medicine and worked in the field until his untimely death.
Personal Life[edit | edit source]
Alec Kessler was married and had two children. He was known for his dedication to both his medical practice and his family. Kessler passed away on October 13, 2007, due to a heart attack while playing a pickup basketball game.

Kessler is remembered for his contributions to both basketball and medicine. His legacy continues through the lives he impacted as a player and a physician.
