Alejandro González Iñárritu (born August 15, 1963) is a Mexican film director, producer, and screenwriter. He is known for his work on films such as Amores perros (2000), 21 Grams (2003), Babel (2006), Biutiful (2010), Birdman (2014), and The Revenant (2015). Iñárritu is one of the most acclaimed and influential filmmakers of his generation.

Alejandro González Iñárritu was born in Mexico City, Mexico. He studied communications at the Universidad Iberoamericana and began his career as a radio host at WFM, a rock music station in Mexico City. He later transitioned to producing and directing commercials and short films.

Career[edit | edit source]

Iñárritu's first feature film, Amores perros, was released in 2000 and received critical acclaim. The film was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film and won the BAFTA Award for Best Film Not in the English Language.

In 2003, Iñárritu directed 21 Grams, which starred Sean Penn, Naomi Watts, and Benicio del Toro. The film was noted for its non-linear narrative and received several award nominations, including two Academy Award nominations for acting.

Babel (2006) was the third film in Iñárritu's "Death Trilogy," following Amores perros and 21 Grams. The film starred Brad Pitt, Cate Blanchett, and Gael García Bernal. Babel won the Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture – Drama and was nominated for seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director.

In 2010, Iñárritu directed Biutiful, which starred Javier Bardem. The film was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, and Bardem received a nomination for Best Actor.

Iñárritu achieved significant success with Birdman (2014), a black comedy-drama starring Michael Keaton, Edward Norton, and Emma Stone. The film won four Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Cinematography.

In 2015, Iñárritu directed The Revenant, an epic survival drama starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy. The film won three Academy Awards, including Best Director for Iñárritu, making him the third director to win consecutive Oscars.
