Alex Gorsky
Alex Gorsky is an American business executive, best known for his role as the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Johnson & Johnson, a multinational medical devices, pharmaceutical, and consumer packaged goods manufacturing company.
Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]
Alex Gorsky was born in 1960. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York. After serving in the military, he pursued further education and received his Master of Business Administration degree from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
Career[edit | edit source]
Gorsky began his career in the pharmaceutical industry at Janssen Pharmaceutica, a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson, in 1988. He held various sales, marketing, and management roles within the company. In 2001, he was appointed as the company's President of the North America region.
In 2003, Gorsky left Johnson & Johnson to join the Novartis pharmaceutical company, where he served as the head of the company's pharmaceuticals business in North America. He returned to Johnson & Johnson in 2008 and was named as the company's worldwide chairman of the surgical care group.
In 2012, Gorsky was appointed as the CEO of Johnson & Johnson, succeeding William C. Weldon. In 2013, he also assumed the role of Chairman of the company.
Personal Life[edit | edit source]
Gorsky is married and has two children. He is known for his philanthropic efforts, particularly in the areas of healthcare and education.
Recognition[edit | edit source]
Gorsky has received numerous awards and recognitions for his leadership in the pharmaceutical industry. He is a member of the Business Roundtable, an association of CEOs from America's leading companies, and serves on the board of directors for IBM and the Partnership for New York City.
