Alexei Mateevici (September 1, 1888 – February 13, 1917) was a prominent Moldovan poet, playwright, and publicist. He is considered one of the most influential figures in Moldovan literature and culture.

Mateevici was born on September 1, 1888, in the village of Zaim, Bessarabia Governorate, then part of the Russian Empire. He received his primary education in his hometown before continuing his studies in Chișinău and later in Odessa, where he studied law.

Mateevici's literary career began in the early 20th century when he started writing poetry and articles for various publications. His works often focused on themes of national identity, patriotism, and social justice. He was a key figure in the cultural and literary movement that aimed to promote Moldovan language and culture.
