History[edit | edit source]
The establishment of the Allegheny National Forest was part of a broader effort to restore and manage the nation's forest resources. The area was heavily logged in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, leading to significant environmental degradation. The creation of the forest helped to promote reforestation and sustainable land management practices.
Management[edit | edit source]
The forest is managed by the United States Forest Service, which is responsible for maintaining the health and sustainability of the forest ecosystem. Management activities include timber harvesting, wildlife habitat improvement, and recreation management. The forest is also subject to various federal laws and regulations aimed at protecting natural resources and ensuring public access.
