Aloo chop

From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellness Encyclopedia

Aloo Chop is a popular Indian and Bangladeshi snack made from potatoes. It is also known in some regions as Aloo Bonda or Batata Vada. The dish is a form of deep-fried potato croquette, and is typically served with a variety of chutneys or sauces.

Ingredients and Preparation[edit | edit source]

The primary ingredient in Aloo Chop is potatoes, which are boiled, peeled, and then mashed. Additional ingredients can include onions, green chilies, ginger, and various spices such as turmeric, cumin, and coriander.

The mashed potato mixture is formed into small balls or patties, which are then dipped in a batter made from gram flour. The coated potato balls are then deep-fried until golden brown.

Variations[edit | edit source]

There are many regional variations of Aloo Chop. In some parts of India, the dish is made with a stuffing of spiced mashed potatoes, while in others, the potatoes are mixed with other vegetables or meat. In Bangladesh, Aloo Chop is often made with added gram or lentils.

Serving[edit | edit source]

Aloo Chop is typically served hot, often as a snack or appetizer. It is commonly accompanied by various types of chutney, such as mint chutney, tamarind chutney, or coriander chutney. In some regions, it is also served with yogurt or Indian breads like naan or roti.
