American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) is a professional organization representing physicians of all oncology sub-specialties who care for people with cancer. Founded in 1964, ASCO is committed to improving cancer care through scientific meetings, educational programs and peer-reviewed journals.

The American Society of Clinical Oncology was established in 1964 by a group of seven physicians who recognized the need for a professional organization dedicated to the unique needs of the emerging specialty of oncology. Since its inception, ASCO has grown to represent more than 45,000 oncology professionals from over 150 countries.

Mission[edit | edit source]

ASCO's mission is to conquer cancer through research, education, prevention, and delivery of high-quality patient care. The society is committed to improving the care of people living with cancer and advancing the science and practice of clinical oncology.

Activities[edit | edit source]

ASCO organizes the ASCO Annual Meeting, one of the largest educational and scientific events in the oncology community. The society also publishes several peer-reviewed medical journals, including the Journal of Clinical Oncology and Journal of Oncology Practice. In addition, ASCO provides educational resources and support for its members, including practice guidelines, professional development opportunities, and patient education materials.

ASCO advocates for policies that provide access to high-quality cancer care, support the clinical cancer research community, and ensure the availability of adequate resources for cancer research and treatment. The society's advocacy efforts include lobbying, public policy research, and public education.
