Amy Acton

Amy Acton is an American physician and former director of the Ohio Department of Health. She is known for her role in managing the COVID-19 pandemic in Ohio.

Amy Acton was born in Youngstown, Ohio. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Youngstown State University and her medical degree from the Northeast Ohio Medical University. She completed her residency in Preventive Medicine at the Ohio State University.

Career[edit | edit source]

Before her appointment as the director of the Ohio Department of Health, Acton worked in various roles in public health and preventive medicine. She served as a professor at the Ohio State University and was involved in several public health initiatives.

In 2019, Acton was appointed as the director of the Ohio Department of Health by Governor Mike DeWine. During her tenure, she led the state's response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Her approach to managing the crisis, which included early and aggressive measures to slow the spread of the virus, was widely praised.

Acton is married and has two children. She is an advocate for mental health and has spoken openly about her own experiences with mental health issues.
