Andrés Torres (baseball)
Andrés Torres (born January 26, 1978) is a former professional baseball outfielder. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Detroit Tigers, Texas Rangers, New York Mets, and San Francisco Giants. Torres is best known for his time with the Giants, where he was a key player in their 2010 World Series championship.
Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]
Torres was born in Patillas, Puerto Rico. He attended Dr. Juan J. Nunez High School in Patillas and later played college baseball at Miami-Dade College.
Professional Career[edit | edit source]
Minor Leagues[edit | edit source]
Torres was drafted by the Florida Marlins in the 23rd round of the 1997 Major League Baseball Draft. However, he did not sign with the Marlins and was later drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the 4th round of the 1998 Major League Baseball Draft. He spent several years in the minor leagues, playing for teams such as the West Michigan Whitecaps, Lakeland Tigers, and Toledo Mud Hens.
Major Leagues[edit | edit source]
Torres made his MLB debut with the Detroit Tigers on April 7, 2002. He played sparingly for the Tigers over the next two seasons before being traded to the Chicago White Sox in 2004. After a brief stint with the White Sox, he signed with the Texas Rangers in 2005.
In 2009, Torres signed a minor league contract with the San Francisco Giants. He made the Giants' roster and had a breakout season in 2010, hitting .268 with 16 home runs and 63 RBIs. His performance helped the Giants win the 2010 World Series, their first championship since 1954.
Torres was traded to the New York Mets in 2011, where he played for one season before returning to the Giants in 2013. He retired from professional baseball after the 2013 season.

Torres is known for his work ethic and perseverance, having overcome several injuries throughout his career. He is also involved in various charitable activities, particularly those benefiting children in Puerto Rico.

Torres is remembered for his speed, defensive skills, and contributions to the Giants' 2010 World Series run. His journey from the minor leagues to becoming a World Series champion serves as an inspiration to many aspiring baseball players.
