Animated film

From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

Animated film refers to a motion picture created by means of animation, which is the process of making the illusion of motion and change by rapidly displaying a sequence of static images that minimally differ from each other. Animation can be recorded with other media such as a motion picture film, video tape, or digital media, and it can also be displayed using various technologies such as a zoetrope, flip book, or digital display.

History[edit | edit source]

The history of animated films dates back to the early 20th century. One of the earliest examples is Gertie the Dinosaur (1914) by Winsor McCay. The development of cel animation in the 1910s and 1920s allowed for more complex and detailed animations. Walt Disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937) was the first full-length cel-animated feature in motion picture history.

Types of Animation[edit | edit source]

Animated films can be created using various techniques, including:

  • Traditional animation: Also known as cel animation, this technique involves drawing each frame by hand.
  • Stop motion: This technique involves physically manipulating objects to appear as though they are moving on their own.
  • Computer-generated imagery (CGI): This technique uses computer graphics to create animated images and is widely used in modern animated films.
  • 2D animation: This involves creating images in a two-dimensional space, often using vector graphics.
  • 3D animation: This involves creating images in a three-dimensional space, often using software like Maya or Blender.
